The fourth South American Footbag Championship took place with complete regularity in the city of Caracas, between days 18 and 21 December 2010. The championship was held two days in the open field and two days indoors. The rent of these spaces for our sport was made possible through money generated by the entries of the tournament and the sponsor of this year DESPEGAR.COM (www.despegar.com), a company that provided their financial support for the realization of the event .
Ten net in the field the first two days were provided to support the games development guidelines for five categories (Open Singles, Open Doubles, Mixed, Intermediate Singles, Doubles Intermediate). A total of 40 competitors gathered in this occasion where we were visited by Jeremy Mirken and Jackson Harris, from the United States, for the third consecutive year these athletes gathered on this side of the continent to continue with the unconditional support you have provided the Footbag Net in South America. There was also the player's presence Yves Kreil, this athlete from Germany came to winning the first succeed in Open Singles and get a second in Open Doubles.
For the first in the championship opened the Mixed category and our girls did not disappoint, four of them participated in the competition, offering the public and the other players a great dream to see growing commitment of young people in this sport so beautiful.
The holding of this event would not have been possible without the help of athletes, guests of the event, DESPEGAR.COM And organizers Victor Lezama and Diego Chávez. Special mention to Juan Diaz, who provided the T-shirts for the event at half price, Mr. Carlos Maldonado served and provided logistical support the development of two new Net for the tournament and Jairo Lagos who made the trophies and medals tournament to a very low cost.
This year's championship awarded to athletes for their record, an allusion to the event shirt, drinks (juice and water), fruits, transportation to and from the premises of the event, first aid class, attendance certificates, trophies and medals for the three top positions in each category. convenient facilities, changing rooms and food sales, additionally balls selling Net Footbag.
The categories were taken under two scoring formats, classic mode for Open Singles, Open Doubles and Mixed, and for intermediate Rally was played to 21 points.
Good matches were swift in Open Singles and Open Doubles, where the first big surprise of the tournament was the first day of the event, the South American Open Singles Champion in 2009 (Victor Lezama) was defeated in the quarterfinals. Our winner this year came close to being defeated in the same instance, when meeting a tough opponent managed to win only three games closed, Jairo Lagos had the chance to beat Yves Kreil in the third set as he was winning with score 10 - 8 and lacked only one point to win, the German merit knew solve the bad situation.
In the quarterfinals, Mr. Jackson harris met another Venezuelan who would go in this round for the second consecutive year, this is Roberto da Silva, who held the fort for three games and meeting at the end could defeat the American player.
The second day of the tournament was the biggest surprise star of the event, to watch it fall to the fifth seed in Open Doubles (Eduardo Martinez and Diego Chavez) in group stage, facing the last-seeded team (Airam and Jonay) and beaten down .
The team was champion in doubles, Jeremy and Jack had two good and interesting encounters before reaching the final of the event, they clashed with Anthony Di Benedetto and Alan Gonzalez in the quarterfinals, semifinals Vs Nelson Castro & Elias Gonzalez.
Singles While preparing two key meetings in a consolation for the fifth and third place respectively. For the third year in a row in this tournament were the faces on the court Victor Lezama and Jack Harris, the latter being the most closed meeting of all the games between them, with more than one-hour victory was for a South American " rivalry " that has become a classic tournament and has a record of three victories to one in favor of Vic.
Moreover, the third in the event was a battle between Roberto Da Silva and Elias Gonzalez, both players left everything on the court and only to the last point was that it released the tension that is presented.
Open A Singles final was on the court Yves Kreil (Germany) and Jeremy Mirken (USA) and although it ended in less than an hour and two games were very tight and each player enjoyed his opportunities during the meeting but only German player the advantage. These same players were the faces in the Open Doubles final, there might take rebancha the American player and with his partner Jack Harris won the final three games of the event in front of Yves Kreil and Oscar Loreto, which did a great tournament.
Without doubt this South American left us high hopes for the sport in Venezuela, approach new players from intermediate to the major categories and our players Yalis, Astrid, Ivaneidy and Andreina are the seeds of a prosperous harvest.
An emotional closing ceremony that took our girls as protagonists of the event ended four days of competition and coexistence.
